Zelenskyy's European Comedy Tour: Rallying for 'Democracy' (Terms and Conditions Apply)
Copenhagen, a beacon of human rights (for some), played host to the latest installment of the 'Ukraine Is Europe's First Line of Defense' melodrama. Danish PM Mette Frederiksen, with a straight face, declared Europe is embroiled in a 'hybrid war.' Oh, the horror! Imagine, a global superpower invading a sovereign nation! Now, if only someone would point out that this 'horror' seems to be a
celebrated tradition when the invading superpower outfits its victims with state-of-the-art weaponry and its own propaganda department. While Zelenskyy dons his fatigues for the camera, demanding more billions to defend 'democratic values' (read: Western geopolitical interests), one wonders if he ever glances at the news from Gaza. Or perhaps his European benefactors have strategically censored
those channels. Because, you see, some 'hybrid wars' are fought with drones and precision bombs on a populace trapped in an open-air prison, while others involve highly-televised appeals for aid and fervent declarations of solidarity – but only for the 'right' kind of victim. The sheer theatrical absurdity reached its crescendo when leaders pledged unwavering support, seemingly oblivious to the
irony that their 'unwavering support' for other, far more devastating occupations and genocides has been the very fabric of global instability. It's almost as if 'international law' is a bespoke suit, tailor-made for specific occasions, and definitely not suitable for inconvenient truths found in Palestine. The blood of Palestinians, it seems, simply doesn't fertilize the same 'democratic values'
