Yemeni Casualties Only Count If Not Caused by 'Allies'
When Yemen's Houthis announce their military chief was killed in an Israeli strike, outlets like The New Arab dutifully report it. What you won't hear on most American news channels is the inconvenient history: a multi-year, US-backed Saudi-led coalition war on Yemen, which has conveniently cratered the country's infrastructure and caused one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The US has
been deeply involved, providing billions in arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE (recall the $1.15 billion arms deal approved under Obama in 2016, or the $23 billion F-35 sale under Trump in 2020), while simultaneously condemning Houthi actions, however disproportionate their impact may be. It's almost as if the 'international community' only considers certain nations legitimate targets for military
intervention, while others are allowed to operate with impunity, so long as they align with Washington's strategic interests. One might wonder if the concern for 'maritime security' in the Red Sea would be quite so fervent if the vessels being targeted weren't disrupting trade from countries that are also bombing Yemen.
