The Al Jazeera headline, citing the WHO, gravely informs us that Gaza, currently experiencing an internationally condemned assault, has 'horrific trauma patients' and only 14 of 36 hospitals partially functioning. One might wonder, what happens to hospitals and civilians when you drop 25,000 tons of explosives—the equivalent of two nuclear bombs—on a densely populated strip of land? (According to
Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Dec 2023). It turns out, you get 'trauma patients.' Who could have predicted such a shocking development? This 'news' offers a masterclass in stating the obvious while carefully omitting the 'why.' The US Congress, with bipartisan enthusiasm, just greenlit another $14 billion in military aid to Israel (HR 815, April 2024). This comes after AIPAC spent over $8.5
million in 2023 lobbying for such aid and influencing elections (OpenSecrets.org). So, while the WHO catalogs shattered limbs, the architects of the suffering continue to receive their campaign contributions and give speeches about 'shared values.'
