So, the mainstream narrative prepares us for a world where a former al-Qaeda linked figure, once American-detained, shakes hands in the Oval Office. This is the official 'normalization' agenda. It conveniently omits the sheer audacity of branding such an event 'historic' without a hint of genuine critical analysis beyond the basic biographical facts. The memory-holing of American intelligence's

past concerns about al-Sharaa (or rather, the figures who paved his path) would be astounding, if it weren't so utterly predictable. The usual pundits will no doubt trot out arguments of 'realpolitik' or 'strategic necessity.' But one has to ask: when does 'strategic necessity' become indistinguishable from a political circus? legitimize figures and factions based on the shifting sands of 'national interest,' particularly when those interests seem to revolve around maintaining a certain regional order (or disorder)?
