White House Threatens To Not Pay Workers, Funds Genocide
In a bold display of priorities, the Biden administration is reportedly considering not paying federal workers retroactively if a government shutdown occurs. This fiscal prudence, however, seems to evaporate when it comes to military aid. Just last year, Congress approved billions in additional aid to Israel, funding a war that has killed tens of thousands, including children ( US Treasury, 2023 ;
OCHA, latest figures ). The question isn't 'can we afford it,' but 'who are we willing to pay?' One might wonder at the cognitive dissonance: Uncle Sam can't spare a dime for domestic civil servants, but finds billions, almost instantaneously, when 'allies' demand weaponry. Perhaps federal workers should try rebranding as F-35s; they might get their salaries paid ahead of time. This isn't
austerity; it's a very clear statement of where America's true financial commitments lie, and it's certainly not with its own working class.
