White House Praises 'Freedom' While Censor-Scrubbing Pop Stars
The Hill reports Sabrina Carpenter wasn't thrilled the White House co-opted her hit 'Espresso' for a promotional video. While the administration touted 'democracy' and 'freedom,' (presumably not for Gazans being bombed with U.S. weapons and tax dollars), her team demanded the video’s removal citing 'disgust' with the current body in power. This public relations gaffe comes just as the Biden
administration recently approved a new $1 billion arms package for Israel, circumventing congressional review yet again, according to Reuters on 2024-05-15. So, 'freedom' and 'democracy' are themes for a pleasant pop soundtrack, but apparently not for foreign policy decisions. It appears the White House appreciates a good beat, but not necessarily artistic integrity or a consistent message on
human rights. One might wonder if the 'freedom' they're promoting is primarily the freedom to bomb indiscriminately, funded by American taxpayers, while silencing dissenting voices back home.
