Western Media Discovers Gaza Civilians Need Homes... Again
The Independent’s recent piece, 'Gravel, rotten wood and no bricks: Palestinians struggle to rebuild home in the ruins of Gaza City,' portrays a tragic 'struggle' as if it's an act of God. Funny how they miss the persistent, deliberate, and documented Israeli policy of destroying Palestinian homes. This isn't just a building material shortage; it's a blockade enforced with billions in U.S.
taxpayer dollars. The 'struggle' is a direct consequence, not an unfortunate side effect. Perhaps the Independent could inquire why cement, pipes, and glass—basic rebuilding materials—are routinely restricted from entering Gaza under Israeli control, a policy highlighted by numerous UN reports over the last decade. Or why the UN reported in 2021 that 20,000 homes needed rebuilding after just one
military operation, a fraction of what's destroyed now. One might wonder if reporting on the cause of the destruction is just too 'controversial' for Western media, unlike the plight of rebuilding with metaphorical (and literal) toothpicks.
