Western Media Discovers 'Brutal Crackdown' in Iran, Ignores Gaza
The Independent details the impending execution of an Iranian protester, Erfan Soltani, citing human rights groups. This somber report highlights the Iranian government's 'brutal crackdown.' (A brutality we are, of course, expected to condemn unequivocally.) Yet, the same media outlets consistently sanitize far more devastating crackdowns when convenient. For context, the UN and numerous human
rights groups have documented the indiscriminate killing of tens of thousands, including women and children, in Gaza by the Israeli military. The same networks running these urgent Iran stories regularly host apologists for what the ICJ is investigating as plausible genocide, often framing the slaughter as 'self-defense.' It appears 'brutal' is a designation reserved for geopolitical adversaries,
not allies carpet-bombing refugee camps. One might wonder if the concern for human rights extends beyond selectively applied outrage.
