Western Media Discovers Authoritarianism, Ignores Its Own Sponsors

The irony writes itself when Western media suddenly discovers 'authoritarianism' only when it's convenient, particularly after the UN’s climate talks have been hosted by the actual largest historical polluters for decades. We're meant to gasp at Turkey's government, but not at the fossil fuel executives who've historically bankrolled environmental policy (or lack thereof) in Washington and

Brussels. The Climate Action Tracker rated the US's climate policies 'Insufficient' as recently as September 2023, while nations like Saudi Arabia (COP28 host) continue to pump oil and cash into climate denial lobbies worldwide. It appears the definition of 'authoritarian' expands conveniently to fit any nation not entirely subservient to Western energy interests. Perhaps Newsweek will next

investigate the 'authoritarian' influence of Lockheed Martin on US foreign policy, or the 'authoritarian' grip of fossil fuel PACs on Congressional votes. Don't hold your breath.
