One might wonder if her memory circuit crashed before 1948, or perhaps even just before October 6th, 2023. These 'reactions' commemorate not the attack itself, but the 'two-year anniversary'
of the 'ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip' the attack 'triggered.' A trigger, of course, implies a pre-existing, fully loaded weapon, ready to unleash destruction. This rhetorical framing meticulously sanitizes decades of occupation, blockade, and displacement. It conveniently overlooks statements from Israeli officials, including former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself, who admitted in
2019 that financing Hamas was a strategy to prevent a Palestinian state. So, when leaders 'remember the horror,' are they also recalling the premeditated political strategies that created the conditions for that horror? Or is it simply easier to start the clock at 'two years ago' and call it a day?
