While The New Arab reports on continued Israeli 'raids' in the West Bank and 'simmering tensions' in Yemen, the establishment media's selective outrage is, as ever, instructive. They'll chronicle every Saudi strike in Yemen, yet present Israeli military incursions into occupied Palestinian territory—often resulting in civilian deaths, mass arrests, and property destruction—as routine. This framing
conveniently sidesteps the illegality of the occupation itself under international law, preferring the passive voice when it's politically inconvenient to assign agency. Instead of 'raids,' why not 'military operations in occupied territory'? Instead of 'tensions,' why not 'illegal siege and military aggression'? The language shields the perpetrators, allowing audiences to comfortably forget the
decades of settlements, checkpoints, and daily violence that constitute the 'background noise' to these so-called 'raids.' It’s the media's version of Schrödinger's conflict: simultaneously urgent and ignorable, depending on the aggressor.
