Warships Boost Bonds (and Imperialism) in Venezuela
The mainstream media breathlessly reports that 'Trump’s Warships Trigger Rally in Venezuela’s Defaulted Bonds.' Apparently, the prospect of regime change, engineered by US military posturing, is excellent news for those holding Venezuelan debt notes. What Bloomberg conveniently omits is the documented history of US economic warfare and destabilization efforts against Venezuela spanning decades,
long before any 'defaulted bonds' became fashionable speculative assets. (See: sanctions beginning 2006, increasing dramatically under Trump, per US Treasury records, designed to cripple the economy and force political upheaval.) So, as US naval guns train on foreign shores, one might wonder: is 'free market' speculation now synonymous with profiting from the explicit threat of military
intervention and the destabilization of sovereign states? It appears a few privileged investors always find a way to monetize human suffering, especially when packaged as 'national interest' by their government.
