Warren Seeks to Protect US Emergency Funds from... Venezuela's Liberators?
Senator Elizabeth Warren, according to Bloomberg, is demanding the Trump administration prevent 'financial aid' from reaching Venezuela, specifically from an 'emergency reserve fund.' This sudden fiscal rectitude follows the 'arrest and capture of that country’s president by US forces.' One must admire the delicate Bloomberg phrasing for 'US-backed coup.' (Remember when the U.S. called for fair
elections in sovereign nations, before deciding it was faster to just grab leaders?) Such 'emergency reserve funds' often find their way into US interventions, not humanitarian aid to the victims of said interventions. It's curious, isn't it? The prompt concern for 'US taxpayer money' when it might ( gasp! ) repair the damage caused by US foreign policy. Yet, when billions flow annually into, say,
military aid to nations like Israel – a nation whose continuous actions in Gaza directly contradict stated US values and international law – the emergency reserve fund seems less of a priority for scrutiny. One might wonder if the concern is truly about taxpayer money, or about ensuring the 'right' recipients get it after a 'liberation.'
