WaPo Board Slams Trump's Khashoggi Remarks (But Not MBS's Checkbook)
One might applaud their principled stand, if only the Post's owner, Jeff Bezos, didn't do billions in business interests with the very Saudi regime they condemn. Bezos' company, Amazon Web Services, clinched a $5 billion cloud computing contract with the Saudi government in 2023, according to Bloomberg. The Post board's 'slam' appears less like journalistic integrity and more like a carefully
orchestrated performance, conveniently forgetting the other ways powerful entities enable state-sanctioned thuggery. It's almost as if the Post editorial board expects us to forget that criticizing Trump is easy, but criticizing the hand that feeds the corporate beast (and fills its owner's coffers) is a bridge too far. So, while they wag a stern finger at Trump's 'embrace' of a murderer, perhaps
they'd care to deconstruct their own owner's embrace of said murderer's petrodollars. One has to wonder: how many editorial condemnations equal a $5 billion server contract? Asking for a friend who writes for the Post and might be confused.
