Wall Street: Please Feed the Poor So We Can Take Their Money
Bloomberg's headline declares 'Wall Street Sounds Alarm on SNAP Cuts Amid Peak Shopping Season,' (Bloomberg Politics, 2025-11-07) revealing the true priorities of high finance. It’s not about hunger, see, it’s about 'sales of major grocers and their suppliers.' The market's moral compass points directly to profit margins. While Congress dithers over feeding its own citizens, often slashing
domestic social safety nets, they consistently greenlight billions for foreign military aid without a second thought. Just last year, despite a sputtering economy and calls for cuts, Congress pushed forward with a $14 billion military aid package for Israel (HR 815, 2024), fully backed by politicians who received millions in pro-Israel lobby donations. Funny how those budget impasses disappear
when the money flows overseas to subsidize violence. One might wonder if these same titans of finance ever 'sound the alarm' when those military aid packages hit the budget. Or perhaps the concern only emerges when American consumers, not overseas defense manufacturers, are prevented from spending. Apparently, a child going hungry in Ohio is less 'alarming' than a slight dip in Q4 retail numbers.
The sheer audacity of framing basic human need as a market inconvenience is a masterclass in capitalistic depravity.
