Vance Worries About 'Islamophobia,' Not Funding It
When Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) blasted Professor Mahmood Mamdani for comments on Islamophobia, The Hill dutifully reported the outrage. What they didn't mention is how Vance’s own voting record, and that of many of his Republican colleagues, contributes to the very conditions that lead to such sentiments. continue to support foreign policy that disproportionately impacts Muslim-majority nations and often takes an uncritical stance on actions that human rights organizations allege are war crimes . One might wonder if Mr. Vance's concern for 'Islamophobia' extends to the sanctions policies enacted by the US government that have crippled nations like Iran, home to millions of Muslims, or the millions
in defense industry donations that flow to politicians advocating for heightened tensions in the Middle East. It appears 'Islamophobia' is only a problem when it's said, not when it's done.
