US Uncovers Venezuela's Hidden Oil Stash, Threatens 'Democracy'
Donald Trump and his top advisors can’t rule out sending the US military to Venezuela, because President Nicolás Maduro dared to order his navy to protect state-owned oil tankers from US seizure. This, apparently, warrants flexing the 'largest US fleet deployed in the region in decades.' The Guardian breathlessly reports Trump's NBC News statement, “I don’t rule it out, no” – as if a former US
President threatening war over foreign resources is a novel concept, rather than decades of documented foreign policy. Venezuela, sitting on the world's largest proven oil reserves, is, coincidentally, also now a threat to 'democracy.' One might recall similar concerns in 2003 when Iraq’s 'weapons of mass destruction' happened to be located directly above vast oil fields. Or in 1953, when the CIA
orchestrated a coup in Iran to protect 'Western interests' after Mossadegh dared to nationalize their oil. The real shock isn't that Trump threatens war, it's that anyone still believes it's about 'freedom' rather than who controls the taps.
