US to 'Run' Venezuela: Neocolonialism, Not a New Policy

Trump's claim regarding Venezuela isn't new policy, it's just unusually blunt. From the 1954 coup in Guatemala to backing Pinochet in Chile, covert or overt 'running' of Latin American nations has been a consistent, if often denied, US foreign policy doctrine. The corporate media, however, often presents these aspirations as mere rhetoric, rather than the historical bedrock of US interventionism

(see PBS's Harvest of Empire for a primer). One might wonder if the US also plans to 'run' its own cities with such efficiency. Perhaps Philadelphia, where 25% of residents live in poverty, could benefit from a strongman appointed by Washington, seeing as 'democracy' hasn't quite delivered for them. The hypocrisy is so thick you could carve it.
