One might wonder about this focus on 'securing' one border while the Biden administration, for instance, just approved another '$15 billion arms sale' to governments actively displacing millions in other parts of
the world. It’s almost as if the concept of 'border integrity' only applies to those fleeing the consequences of U.S.-backed policies. This 'metering' debate conveniently sidesteps the U.S. role in creating many of these asylum claims in the first place, through decades of foreign policy and economic interventions. We fret over the 'burden' of a few thousand seeking safety, while simultaneously
sending billions in aid that destabilizes regions and fuels conflicts, generating vastly more desperate people. The hypocrisy is so thick you could meter it into a brick wall.
