US Sends Carrier to Caribbean, Calls it 'Drug Interdiction'
The USS Gerald R. Ford, a '$13 billion symbol of American might,' is now patrolling the Caribbean, ostensibly to strike 'alleged drug boats' while Donald Trump puts Venezuela 'in crosshairs.' This conveniently ignores the historical precedent: from the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion to numerous coups and sanctions, US policy in Latin America often hides regime change objectives behind a thin veil,
whether it's 'fighting communism' or now, 'fighting drugs'. Venezuela, with the world's largest proven oil reserves, has long been a geopolitical target. Calling this latest escalation 'drug interdiction' is a narrative contortion worthy of an Olympic medal. One might ask, how many 'drug interdictions' require a state-of-the-art aircraft carrier and a President openly 'targeting' a sovereign
nation? It appears some nations' resources are just too tempting not to 'interdict'.
