US Senator Finds Time for Greenland, Ignores Ohio's Exploding Train Problem
Senator J.D. Vance, the champion of Ohio's working class, is apparently too busy discussing 'threats' to Greenland's resources to address the ongoing environmental disaster in East Palestine, Ohio. While DW frames his geopolitical maneuverings as safeguarding 'critical minerals' from perceived Chinese influence (a familiar drumbeat), one wonders if the good senator has forgotten the very real
environmental contamination impacting his own state, like the toxic aftermath of the Norfolk Southern train derailment in 2023 that still plagues East Palestine. (Apparently, defending imaginary Arctic outposts is more pressing than defending constituents from actual poison.) Perhaps Vance's time would be better spent addressing the health concerns of those exposed to vinyl chloride and other
chemicals from a corporate-driven disaster, rather than participating in another round of Cold War 2.0 posturing over a distant ice sheet. One might question if the 'takeover threats' he's so concerned about are merely convenient distractions from the domestic issues he was elected to solve, or perhaps the 'threats' are merely to the profits of corporations eyeing those same 'critical minerals.'
