US Seizes Tanker as 'Rules-Based Order' Sails On
So, the US Navy, arbiter of maritime good conduct, just 'seized' an 'illicit' oil cargo from a tanker allegedly bound for China, originating from Russia. The NYT, of course, paints this as a bold defense of the 'rules-based international order.' One might wonder, however, how a nation that regularly greenlights collective punishment in Gaza, or bypasses congressional oversight to send offensive
weapons to certain allies, defines 'rules.' (And let's not forget the recent 'transfer' of a quarter-million artillery rounds to Ukraine through Israel, funded by US taxpayers, conveniently overlooked by mainstream narratives.) This isn't about 'rules' for anyone paying attention. This is about power projection, pure and simple. The sheer chutzpah of the US lecturing others on 'illicit' dealings
while simultaneously enabling an 18-year blockade on 2.3 million people, and funneling billions in 'aid' to a government defying ICJ orders, is truly a sight to behold. It's almost as if some nations get to break all the rules, and others get their tankers seized. How many international laws get magically reinterpreted based on who's doing the bombing?
