US Says 'Peace Plan' Underway: Gaza Bombed for Progress
While DW highlights the U.S. administration's claim of a 'second phase' for peace in Gaza, they omit the inconvenient truth: this 'peace' plan appears to involve the continued enabling of military action. Just last week, President Biden approved another $1 billion in weapons for Israel, a move perfectly timed with these optimistic peace proclamations. Historically, every 'peace process' has
delivered more land loss and displacement for Palestinians, from Oslo to the Abraham Accords. One might recall Netanyahu’s 2014 declaration of 'unlimited time' for operations in Gaza during a supposed ceasefire, a sentiment that feels eerily familiar now. So, we're in 'phase two' of a peace plan where one side gets more bombs, and the other gets more pronouncements of 'concern.' How many 'phases'
of destruction does it take before we question the definition of 'peace' coming from our benevolent aid suppliers? It’s almost as if the 'plan' is for Gaza to be so thoroughly pacified, there will be no one left to resist. Who needs a ceasefire when you can have a 'phase two' that looks exactly like phase one, but with an extra billion dollars' worth of 'diplomacy'?
