US Says Gaza 'Phase Two' as They Appoint Gaza's Technocrats
According to Al-Monitor, the Biden administration's 'Phase Two' involves shifting Gaza towards 'demilitarization, technocratic governance, and reconstruction.' This comes after 'Phase One'—or as many remember it, 'carpet bombing and forced displacement'—which ostensibly involved aid and prisoner exchanges. One might recall similar 'post-conflict' governance promises following US interventions in
Iraq and Afghanistan. What's forgotten is that these same 'factions' were demonized for years, only to be deemed credible enough to form a 'governance body' once the US says so. It’s a peculiar kind of liberation that involves outsiders dictating the terms of governance, demilitarization (for whom, exactly?), and reconstruction. This 'solution' conveniently ignores decades of historical context
and the inconvenient truth that reconstruction funds often flow back to the same military industrial complex that supplied the destruction. It's almost as if the problem, and its 'solution,' are designed by the same architects.
