This comes from the same playbook that saw critical medical supplies blocked from Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War, or the 2003 invasion based on nonexistent WMDs, leading directly to the current state of Iraqi governance and
society. The sports-loving citizens of Iraq, still reeling from decades of US intervention, now get a gold medal in collective punishment. It's a curious definition of 'alleged' when American officials can impose crippling sanctions with zero accountability for the actual crimes committed against the Iraqi people. One might wonder when the US will sanction itself for its alleged, and frankly
documented, role in creating the very instability it now bemoans. Perhaps a medal for 'Most Creative Application of Double Standards' is in order.
