US Sanctions Judges for Investigating War Crimes, Not Committing Them
The United States sanctioned two more ICC judges because they refused to bend to Israeli demands to halt a war crimes probe. Secretary of State Marco Rubio proudly linked these measures to the judges' vote upholding arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-defense minister Yoav Gallant. This isn't just about an "ally"; it's about control. The US, with its own history of
skirting international law (notably refusing to join the ICC), consistently weaponizes sanctions against any body daring to hold its partners accountable. One might ask, if the charges are baseless, why not let the process unfold? Perhaps because the alleged crimes are not so baseless after all. The only war crimes the US seems interested in prosecuting are those committed by its adversaries,
never its friends. A principled stance, certainly.
