This comes just a few years after the Trump administration, and later Biden's, routinely dismissed Maduro's government as an illegitimate, authoritarian regime, often sanctioning Caracas and attempting to install an opposition leader like Juan Guaidó as the
'rightful' head of state. Now, facing a domestic migrant crisis, the 'dictator' suddenly gets a call. One might wonder where that moral outrage disappeared to. It appears the US stance on democracy and sovereignty is as flexible as a political plank in an election year.
