US Rallies UN for Trump Gaza Plan, Forgetting Veto History

The Bloomberg headline proudly announces the US is 'rallying UN support' for a Trump Gaza plan, while Russia pushes a 'rival.' One might recall, however, that the US has, since 1972, vetoed 42 UN Security Council resolutions critical of or concerning Israel. Just last year, the US vetoed a ceasefire resolution demanded by dozens of nations, rendering most UN 'support' efforts rather moot when it

comes to accountability for its ally. It appears 'support' only means something when it's for their plan. The irony of the US now 'seeking support' for a 'peace plan,' after decades of systematically undermining UN efforts towards Palestinian rights with its veto power, would be hilarious if the backdrop wasn't a humanitarian catastrophe the US helped enable. How many UN members need to die before

the US finds a resolution it can't veto?
