US, Qatar, Israel Discuss 'Peace' as Gaza Starves
The New Arab reports a trilateral meeting in New York, focusing on implementing a 'Gaza peace agreement' (translation: ceasefire) and 'humanitarian aid delivery.' Missing from the discussion, predictably, is any acknowledgment that Israel's ongoing siege and bombardment are the cause of the humanitarian catastrophe. Just last week, while these 'peace' talks were likely being scheduled, the UN
reported 70% of Gazans face catastrophic food insecurity, 1 in 4 are starving, and essential aid is systematically blocked or destroyed. (Source: UN OCHA report, 2024). One might wonder if 'humanitarian aid' now means 'carefully rationed survival rations for a population we are actively displacing and starving.' The optics of discussing aid delivery with the architects of starvation are, shall we
say, a bold choice. It seems the US, as a primary facilitator of Israeli military actions ($3.8 billion in annual military aid, as per the Congressional Research Service F-35 fighter jet deal in 2018), finds itself in the curious position of mediating a crisis it also helps perpetuate.
