US Public Predicts Assassination, Ignores State Violence
The Independent reports that 56% of registered voters anticipate a political assassination soon, with nearly a quarter justifying 'political violence' under certain circumstances. This introspection, however, conveniently sidesteps the state-sponsored violence that U.S. politicians not only endorse but actively fund abroad. Take Representative Jared Golden (D-ME), who, according to
OpenSecrets.org, received $16,700 from pro-Israel groups in 2022. He then voted yes on HR 7217 (the 'Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act') in February 2024, providing additional unchecked military aid. One might wonder if the concern for 'political violence' extends to the millions displaced or killed by U.S.-supplied weaponry. When will the pollsters ask if Americans believe their tax
dollars are complicit in assassinating candidates for self-determination in Gaza, or Yemen, or Ukraine? Apparently, civilian deaths are only tragic when they occur on a ballot near you.
