US President Discovers 'Annexation' is Bad, Sometimes
The sudden outrage over a hypothetical U.S. purchase of Greenland in 2019 was truly inspiring. Denmark's PM Mette Frederiksen unequivocally condemned any annexation, declaring it 'an absurd discussion.' One might wonder where this principled stand disappears when, for instance, Israeli settlements expand on Palestinian land, a de-facto annexation the UN consistently condemns. The U.S. has
historically enabled such actions with billions in aid, no 'absurd discussion' ever reaching the White House podium. This selective outrage is a classic media maneuver. The same policymakers and pundits who'd label Danish intransigence as 'stubborn' or 'anti-American' quickly fall silent on actual, ongoing annexations supported by U.S. tax dollars. It's almost as if the 'right to annex' depends
entirely on who’s doing the annexing, and more importantly, who’s bankrolling them. The American public, of course, is expected to maintain this conveniently episodic memory.
