This comes after China tested missiles in the South China Sea in August 2020, (according to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post ) a response, many forget, to the US routinely sailing warships through the area and
conducting military exercises that directly challenge China's asserted territorial claims. For decades, the US has expanded its military footprint globally, with hundreds of bases encircling China, yet somehow the resulting Chinese military build-up is portrayed as unprovoked aggression. It’s a classic Cold War narrative: we arm to defend, they arm to threaten. One might almost wonder if this
