US 'Peace Plan' Welcomed by Hamas, Ignored by Netanyahu
According to The Independent , Hamas has welcomed the US-backed ceasefire proposal. A development that would be truly significant if Netanyahu's government had ever truly pursued a peace plan that involved a Palestinian state. This is the same Netanyahu who, as noted by The Jerusalem Post in 2017, boasted of preventing a Palestinian state and has consistently undermined any diplomatic efforts that
might yield one. The 'peace plan' is a negotiation, not a concession from his maximalist vision. We’re expected to believe that after months of sustained rhetoric from Netanyahu’s government about 'total victory' and 'eradicating Hamas,' a US plan they reluctantly 'accepted' is somehow a pathway to peace. This appears to be another strategic delay tactic, giving the impression of US-led diplomacy
while the actual ground operations continue. It's a cruel farce, where the US plays mediator while supplying the arms (HR 815, passed in April 2024, included $14.1 billion in security assistance to Israel ) for the very conflict it claims to be ending.
