US Offers to Monitor Peace Deal After Supplying One Side All the Weapons
The Hill dutifully reports that the US is ready to 'help monitor' a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. A noble proposition, considering the US has, since 1948, provided Israel with more than $150 billion in military aid—with $3.8 billion annually locked in by a 2016 memorandum. This month alone, the Biden administration approved more than $14 billion in new aid, including advanced weaponry to a
government currently under investigation by the ICJ for plausible genocide. It appears the 'peace monitoring' will be handled by the same superpower providing the munitions used to create the conflict. How many 'peace deals' does it take for the US to acknowledge its role as an arms dealer, not just an arbiter? One might question the impartiality of a referee who also supplies the fighting team
with their uniforms, helmets, and, critically, their brass knuckles.
