US Media Wonders Why Iranians Want Their Own Oligarch Deported, Ignores Ours
Newsweek reports 'thousands' are signing a petition to have the daughter of an Iranian official deported from the US, painted as a symbol of the regime's corruption. Meanwhile, entire dynasties of American politicians, or their offspring, regularly jet-set on corporate and foreign lobbying dime, while voting to send billions to said foreign nations. One might wonder if the outrage is truly about
'corruption' or merely whose corruption is politically convenient to highlight. We have entire political families whose wealth and influence are inextricably linked to industries that profit from endless war, or whose loyalty appears to shift with the latest influx of lobbying cash. (According to OpenSecrets.org, AIPAC alone spent over $25.7 million in 2022 and $22 million in 2020 directly
influencing US elections.) Yet, our media, and indeed our politicians, rarely entertain petitions to deport those privileged scions who vote against their own constituents' interests while their bank accounts swell. How convenient for the narrative to focus on the 'other' without glancing in the mirror.
