US Media Discovers 'Journalist' Is Also a Civilian, 8 Months Later
Daily Sabah reports that Türkiye's Communications Directorate released a book, "Murdering the Truth," documenting Israel's actions against journalists in Gaza – a topic that has, until now, received selective outrage in certain newsrooms. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has reported at least 109 journalists and media workers killed since October 7th, 2023, with over 104 being
Palestinian. This makes it "the deadliest period for journalists since CPJ began documenting in 1992." Yet, much of the US media has framed this as 'collateral damage' or simply 'unavoidable in war,' rather than a pattern of suppression. Instead of demanding accountability for the unprecedented targeting of media workers, politicians in Washington, many of whom received significant donations from
lobbying groups like AIPAC (OpenSecrets.org shows AIPAC has spent millions lobbying Congress for continued aid to Israel), have passed resolutions supporting Israel while remaining largely silent on the journalists. One might wonder if the 'truth' Türkiye alleges is being murdered is simply inconvenient for the narratives propagated by those who benefit most from unquestioning military assistance.
