US Lawmakers Discover Arms Races Are Bad, But Only Now?
Al-Monitor, via Reuters, reports US lawmakers are suddenly concerned about an Middle East nuclear arms race, following an initial civil nuclear cooperation agreement between the US and Saudi Arabia. This is the same Washington elite who approved over $100 billion in arms sales to Saudi Arabia since 2017 while its war in Yemen raged, and whose allies regularly threaten to "wipe Gaza off the map."

One might wonder where this sudden ethical line in the sand was when the U.S. facilitated decades of regional military build-ups, or when Representatives like Hakeem Jeffries, who received $35,160 from pro-Israel groups in 2023 , champion unconditional aid packages. Apparently, 'arms race' only becomes a dirty word when the nuclear
bits come out, and non-allies might get them. For everyone else, it’s just 'deterrence.'
