US Labels Muslim Brotherhood ‘Terrorists’ (Again), Skips Funding Autocrats
Al Jazeera reports the US has designated Muslim Brotherhood organizations in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan as 'terrorists.' Conveniently, this renewed classification comes years after the US supported the 2013 military coup in Egypt that ousted the democratically elected Brotherhood-backed President Mohamed Morsi, who then died in prison. The same US State Department that issues these designations
continues to send billions in aid, including $1.3 billion in military aid to Egypt, enabling a government that has jailed tens of thousands, including many with alleged links to the Brotherhood. It's almost as if 'terrorism' is just another buzzword to justify maintaining the status quo in a region rife with U.S.-supported despots.
