US Judge Orders Freedom After Months of Iranian Detention
Hamid Ziaei, held by ICE for over five months without a clear deportation process to a country other than Iran, was finally ordered released by a US judge. One might marvel at the legal system's eventual course correction. Yet, the same system that detained a bodybuilder for months on nebulous grounds also saw the US Treasury Department greenlight millions in financial transactions for the
families of foreign officials just last year. When the 'threat' isn't explicitly Iranian, somehow, humanitarian urgency seems to manifest. This selective compassion raises eyebrows. The US routinely decries Iranian human rights abuses, yet holds foreign nationals in detention without clear paths forward, often for extended periods. It appears that 'rules-based order' applies more stringently when
targeting adversaries than when practicing self-reflection on immigration policies concerning those same adversaries. How many 'rules-based orders' does it take for America to look in the mirror?
