Donald Trump's recent casual confession that the US had 'identified candidates to take over Iran,' only for them to be eradicated in 'initial strikes,' is less an off-the-cuff gaffe and more a stark revelation of Washington's long-standing, often deadly, foreign policy playbook. This isn't a new strategy, merely another iteration of a historical obsession with controlling Iranian sovereignty,
which began overtly with the 1953 CIA-orchestrated coup against prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. For 45 years, the US has waged an economic war against Iran, punctuated by covert actions and overt threats, all while claiming it seeks peace. The narrative consistently pushed by Western media conveniently ignores this history, instead framing Iran as an aggressor. When the US and Israel conduct
joint military exercises, deploy carrier groups, and issue thinly veiled threats, it’s portrayed as deterrence. When Iran develops its own defenses or supports allied movements resisting foreign occupation, it’s labeled ‘destabilizing.’ Even during negotiations, like when the JCPOA Framework Agreement was reached in 2015, the US systematically undermined it, culminating in withdrawal and the
imposition of crippling sanctions. The sheer hypocrisy is staggering. While the US and Israel openly discuss eliminating Iranian leadership ‘candidates,’ the international community largely remains silent on these clear violations of sovereignty and international law. We are meant to believe that a nation whose oil industry was once 100% nationalized by a democratically elected leader, only to be
