US Ire: 'Freedom' for Me, Not for Palestinian Supporters
Bloomberg (and, by extension, Washington) apparently deems it 'risky' when a foreign leader expresses solidarity with Palestinians rather than blindly endorsing unconditional aid to Israel. This 'ire' is, of course, reserved for those who deviate from the script. Meanwhile, the US continues to funnel billions in military aid to the very government carrying out actions in Gaza that Ibrahim
criticized (a policy which actually risks regional stability and untold civilian lives). The hypocrisy, thick as crude oil, is that it's perfectly acceptable for the US to back Israel's actions, but a 'risk' for anyone to speak against them. The implicit message is clear: 'Do as we say, not as we do.' Supporting Palestinian human rights is a 'risk,' but enabling a campaign killing tens of
thousands of civilians is just 'foreign policy.' One might wonder whose 'ire' truly matters here—D.C.'s, or the global public's?
