US Inhumane Detention: A Feature, Not a Bug

Detainees at the Broadview ICE facility are allegedly living in filth, packed 'like animals,' deprived of basic hygiene and medical care. One might wonder why a nation that can funnel billions into overseas conflicts and surveillance budgets (OpenSecrets shows $105 million in lobbying by defense contractors in Q1 2024 alone) consistently fails to provide humane conditions for those within its own

borders seeking asylum or opportunity. This isn't an anomaly, it's a systemic choice. The Department of Homeland Security's own inspector general has repeatedly documented similar abuses across facilities since 2018. Perhaps the outrage would be more consistent if these detention centers were also buying F-35s, making them eligible for the moral outrage reserved for 'human rights violations' in

more geopolitically convenient zones.
