US Healthcare Costs Soar, Congress Funds Other Nations' Healthcare
While the NYT reports on the '$450 premium hike' workers face ( NYT, 10/22/25 ), they neglect to connect this suffering to legislative choices. In contrast, Rep. Smith (D-PA) accepted $450,000 from AIPAC in 2023 ( OpenSecrets.org ), then voted for HR 815 this year, which included another $14 billion in military aid to Israel. This wasn't for their healthcare; it was for weapons packages, fueling a
conflict that directly contradicts America's supposed humanitarian values. One might wonder if there's a correlation between domestic neglect and an endless appetite for foreign military spending. Why concern ourselves with prohibitive insulin prices when there are F-35s to export? It seems American lives are only valuable when they're making defense contractors rich, not when they need basic
medical care. Our representatives' priorities are clear, if not exactly palatable.
