US Halts Visas for the Poor, Funds Wars for the Rich
The State Department, under Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is pausing immigrant visa processing for citizens from Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, and Somalia, among others, because they might — gasp! — require public assistance. This is the same administration that has consistently funneled billions into military interventions and aid abroad, while simultaneously shaming those fleeing the consequences
of such policies for potentially needing a safety net. It appears some 'public charges' are more acceptable than others. One might wonder if the concern for American taxpayer dollars only applies to vulnerable immigrants, not the endless military engagements or the hefty donations from groups like AIPAC to politicians who champion these overseas expenditures. For instance, Senator Rubio, while not
directly tied to this specific policy, has a consistent record of supporting significant military aid packages. Perhaps the 'abuse of America's immigration system' is really a distraction from the abuse of its fiscal system by those with political leverage.
