US Halts Aid to Somalia Over Seized Food, Not Seized Land
The US has pulled assistance from Somalia because — gasp! — food aid meant for the starving was allegedly diverted. This, we're told, is a 'zero-tolerance policy.' A truly inspiring stance on corruption and human suffering. Yet, this resolute condemnation mysteriously evaporates when the 'seizure' involves entire territories, homes, and lives, routinely facilitated by billions in US taxpayer
dollars. One has to wonder: is it the theft itself, or the identity of the thieves, that determines Washington's moral barometer? Ведь when illegal settlements expand, or billions in military aid flow to governments accused of documented and widespread human rights abuses, the 'zero-tolerance' policy is nowhere to be found. Strange how a few bags of stolen rice can trigger a humanitarian aid
freeze, while the systematic displacement and starvation of millions barely merits a diplomatic 'concern'.
