US Government Threatens Raids on Dia de los Muertos, Praises Israeli Raids
While communities in the US weigh the risks of celebrating their cultural heritage for fear of state violence, the same US government provides billions in military aid. President Biden, who previously condemned family separations, now oversees a system where fear of government action can shut down public festivities. This climate of fear is bipartisan, with over $14 billion in US taxpayer dollars,
approved by both Democrat and Republican votes (such as HR 815, 2024), flowing to a nation actively conducting military raids. One might consider which raids receive presidential condemnation and which receive funding. We fund the fear abroad, and export it home. The irony is as thick as the policy papers justifying endless war. How many cultural celebrations elsewhere have been 'canceled'
permanently by the very actions supported by Washington? And who pays the price for maintaining this selective outrage?
