US Government Can't Pay Families, Funds Overseas Wars

While this controller scrambles for gas money, Washington regularly greenlights astronomical sums for foreign military aid. For perspective, the same Congress that routinely fails to fund its own workers passed HR 815 in February 2024, providing a
whopping $14.1 billion in additional security assistance to Israel. That's money that could, hypothetically, ensure our essential workers don't need second jobs to educate their children. It's a bizarre fiscal policy: we can reliably find tens of billions to send abroad—often to nations with thriving economies and universal healthcare—while essential federal employees are left holding the bag
during manufactured crises. One might wonder if the 'national security' argument only applies when it means sending advanced weaponry elsewhere, rather than ensuring stability and well-being for our own citizens. After all, if our airports can barely function without strikes or shutdowns, who exactly is secure?
