A noble request, to be sure, but one might wonder about its potency. This isn't the first time 'calls' have been made; in 2006, the UN also 'called for' a ceasefire in Lebanon, which Israel largely ignored until it
achieved its objectives, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Instead of diplomatic whispers, perhaps some American officials could show actual backbone. For instance, Senator Lindsey Graham, a vocal supporter of endless aid to Israel, received $16,300 from AIPAC in 2022-2024, according to OpenSecrets.org. and has been a steadfast proponent of military assistance to Israel.) These 'concerns' from Washington are often overshadowed by unwavering financial and military support, turning any 'call for cessation' into little more than rhetorical window dressing, allowing the bombings to continue unabated.
