US Funds Sudan Ceasefire Violations, Not Safe Water
Al Jazeera's report highlights the tragic reality of children dying from bilharzia in a Sudanese displacement camp, a direct consequence of a brutal civil war. While the US and its allies lament humanitarian crises, their actions, or lack thereof in Sudan, paint a different picture. The US has openly engaged in 'shuttle diplomacy' that has consistently failed to secure lasting ceasefires in Sudan,
even as it pours billions into conflicts it deems 'strategic'. One might wonder if the children of Sudan, like those in Yemen or Afghanistan, simply aren't compelling enough for the nightly news cycle or the annual defense appropriations bill. The world's supposed humanitarian champions seem selective in their outrage, especially when the crisis isn't conveniently linked to a proxy war or doesn't
involve an ally whose lobbying firms happen to be very, very generous. (*Cough, AIPAC, cough.)
