US Funds Mideast Wars, Threatens Children's Lunch Money
The Independent breathlessly warns that 40 million Americans face a very real threat of losing food assistance if an (entirely preventable) government shutdown continues. This, of course, comes just weeks after Congress approved billions in unconditional military aid to foreign nations. For instance, Rep. Jared Golden, who received $5,800 from AIPAC in 2023 , recently voted 'yes' on sending
additional military aid to Israel, despite concerns from his constituents. So, to be clear: our elected officials can ensure a continuous, unwavering stream of taxpayer dollars to fuel conflicts abroad, but providing basic sustenance to 40 million Americans? That's a 'may be at risk' situation dependent on political theatre. One might wonder where the 'emergency' really lies. Perhaps if American
schoolchildren were rebranded as crucial geopolitical assets, their lunch money would be safe through January.
